I was booking a flight destination from Kathmandu/Nepal to Frankfurt/Germany on the 23rd of January with Oman Air. The duration of the whole trip (WY-332: 9:00-12:45 - KTM – Muscat / WY-113: 14:00-18:45 - Muscat – Frankfurt) was supposed to take less than 14 hours, included 1:15h time for the transfer. But actually it turned out to be a 34 hours trip for me. One day before the flight was supposed to go the Airline called me to tell me I should be at the Airport Kathmandu 3 hours before the flight will leave. So I should be there at 6 am. This is unusual; normally 2 hours are perfectly fine. I was asking for the reason but the colleague just said, it would be very busy that time of the day. So I arrived at the airport at 6 am. The first flight from KTM to Muscat was already 2 hours to late. That meant I was already waiting 5 hours before I could take my first flight. But at the check-in in Kathmandu Airport nobody of the Oman Air staff informed me about this delay. They only gave me one boarding pass. After I was asking why I don`t get the second boarding pass for the Frankfurt flight the lady on the counter answered, I would get it in Muscat. That actually seemed already strange to me because normally you get both boarding passes at the check-in. So, I guess the reason was the delay. The airline Oman Air obviously already knew that there would be a delay with the departure because of the weather. But the lady at the check-in forgot to tell me or didn’t tell me on purpose this very important information. That meant I would miss my second flight in Muscat since the transfer time was too tight. So I was waiting on the KTM airport and wondering why the boarding has not started yet. Actually another passenger had to give me the information of the delay. This is not at all acceptable and it shows an unprofessional service of Oman Air. This was the first disappointment on my trip. When we arrived at Muscat Airport in Oman it was a terrible mess. Everybody missed their flights. The transfer counters were totally over crowded with people that needed to get a transit. Nobody of the Oman Air staff gave proper advices what to do next. Actually they were totally understaffed. There was only ONE lady who was in charge to find new connection flights for approximately 100 passengers. I had to asked my way around and stand in line for over 2 hours. There were passengers without any English skills and with children. I was taking care of a woman who couldn`t speak English or Arabic and her 2 small children. They had no idea what to do next. Nobody was helping them. They would have been lost if I would have not taken care of them. After a long time I found out that I had to wait for another 8 hours to get another flight, first to Abu Dhabi and then to Frankfurt. In the meantime we were supposed to stay in a hotel. This was actually good news BUT before I could take a rest I needed to wait another hour to get the transit visa and I needed to wait for other passengers that were also supposed to go to the hotel. By that time (it was 6 pm Muscat time) the trip already took 10 hours!! In these 10 hours the airline Oman Air gave us ONE glass of water. I had the children with me, they were starving. I was almost fainting because of dehydration. We all suffered from headaches. Oman Air was not taking care of us of the well-being of their passengers at all. It was actually dangerous to health what happened here. After I told one of the stewardesses that she should by some water for us, especially for the children, she first said, she has no money and she would need to wait for other passengers to take them to the hotel. This was the huge second disappointment. After a while she went and bought some bottles of water for us. After all the waiting I only had 2,5 hours in the hotel to find some rest. Then I had to wait for the next flight to Abu Dhabi. The Airline Oman Air gave me following connection: Muscat-Abu Dhabi 23:55 pm 23rd of Jan – 01:05 am 24th of Jan // Abu Dhabi-Frankfurt 02:05 am – 6:30 am 24th of Jan). This connection had a transit time of 1 hour. So very little time again. What happened was already to expect. The flight from Muscat to Abu Dhabi was also 1 hour too late. When the plane arrived in Abu Dhabi the airline staff told us we all missed our connection flights. So AGAIN, within one day I missed my connecting flight twice because of delays. In the end I had to wait another 7 hours at the Abu Dhabi Airport before I could take a machine to Frankfurt: Abu Dhabi-Frankfurt 9:10 am – 01:35 pm 24th of Jan. Why the airline Oman Air did gave me a connection with such a tight transit time?? Almost every flight on that day was delayed because of weather conditions. It was already to expect that this flight connection with 1 hour transit time would be too tight. It would have been way much easier to find a connection with a longer transit time or to put me on the flight the next day that was supposed to go directly from Muscat to Frankfurt. But this way it was an unbearable trip with dehydration, lack of sleep, so many hours of waiting, I needed to sleep on the floor of the Abu Dhabi Airport. It was horrible and unacceptable. This was the third disappointment. Another thing was, I had already booked a train ticket from Frankfurt to Hannover because Hannover was the city I needed to go to. This train was supposed to go in the evening of 23rd of Jan. But since these massive delays I missed the train that I`ve already paid for. It was a non-refundable ticket. In Muscat I was asking Oman Air several times if they could put me in a flight that would go to Hannover. There was a connection, I checked it myself (Muscat-Amsterdam / Amsterdam-Hannover + 4 hours transit time in Amsterdam). This flight would have been perfect for me. And it would have been a gesture of service of Oman Air to put me into this flight, since it was Oman Airs fault that I missed my connecting train and that I also lost the money for the ticket! But there was no way. Without any explanation Oman Air staff members told me it would not be possible to change the flight destination. This was actually the forth disappointment. Because of Oman Air I needed to buy me another train ticket at the Frankfurt Airport to Hannover. The costs were another 91 Euro!!! It is extremely costly to buy the train tickets with the “Deutsche Bahn” directly the day you want to leave. Normally I buy them in advance so I get special prices, but I had no other chance. After all the delays I needed to buy the ticket directly at the Frankfurt Airport. So because of Oman Air I was forced to pay this 91 Euro extra. That was the fifths disappointment. I was already requesting a refund for the ticket and a compensation from the airline Oman Air. I am waiting for the answer. Hopefully this won`t be another disappointment.
